Veronica, nominee for Outstanding Individual Achievement award

Did you know that Veronica has been nominated for the Outstanding Individual Achievement award?

Veronica, a 4th year Dentistry student, has been nominated for the Outstanding Individual Achievement award due to her amazing work as Salsa Society president this year. As a co- founder of the Society back in 2017/2018, Veronica can’t imagine life without dancing.

‘’I grew up in a musical and dancing culture and I’m so grateful and happy to have been involved in the Society for this long”

‘’I grew up in a musical and dancing culture and I’m so grateful and happy to have been involved in the Society for this long”. Veronica can often be found going for cocktails at Harvey Nichols Gold bar followed by dancing to Latin music at Revolucion de Cuba with friends. But no sitting down allowed! Veronica makes sure that everyone is having fun and dancing the night away. Her musical love of reggaeton and any other Latin music like Salsa or Bachata are great for salsa; dancing is a great stress relief for Veronica allowing for a good cardio session as well as distractor from academic life.

Over the last year Veronica has kept up to date with what dance teachers worldwide are doing during COVID, and has worked with Bristol SU staff and the salsa committee to come up with innovative ideas. Veronica successfully made relationships with other Dance UoB Societies as well as with 13 other Salsa Societies within the UK. This allowed for a collaboration with the 13 University Salsa Societies that lasted for two terms and brought society members many benefits. Wellbeing Officers put in place the Salsa family scheme, improving wellbeing and inclusivity. Despite the pandemic, the Salsa Society managed to maintain two performance teams as well as securing sponsorship.

When Veronica heard about her nomination she was studying for an exam, however the news put her in a very good mood, giving her the push needed to get through the rest of her work.

Veronicas last words “Thank you so so much to everyone that nominated me!! I’m so touched and I happy about the nomination!! That is already a win, just with that! And that I couldn’t have done any of it without my amazing committee!! Besos to everyone and a virtual hug”
